It is widely accepted through research that there is a low level of women going into business and growing their businesses in the UK . Those who do create new businesses often continue to face many barriers to entrepreneurial activity. Barriers include lack of confidence, the feeling of loneliness and isolation, less management experience and limited access to a supportive business networks. In particular Labour Market Surveys indicate that other types of female economic activity are decreasing, therefore maintaining of increasing levels of female self employment will be critical to ensuring continued economic development. Through experience with women at a local level, involvement in local and regional consultation forums, participation on programmes specifically tailored to support women entrepreneurs and active involvement in the Women’s Entrepreneur Networks, Ballymena Business Centre and In To Biz Ltd are fully aware that women entering into business or already in business are a diverse group requiring access to specific support programmes tailored to meet their personal, business and networking needs.
